The Superga® brand was born on 3 October 1911 when the Walter Martiny joint-stock company began producing waterproof boots for agriculture with rubber soles and vulcanized rubber footwear.

In 1934 Superga® now includes dozens of footwear models intended for sports (tennis, basketball, yachting, gymnastics).

In 1951 the merger with Pirelli increased production dramatically: between 1952 and 1975 the pairs of shoes produced went from 2 to 12 million a year.

In 1993 Superga® detaches itself from Pirelli and merges into the So.PA.F group until, in February 2004, BasicNet becomes its sole worldwide licensee and in 2007 acquires full ownership.
